5 Top Tips For The Brighton Train Commuter

by Graham on July 8, 2010

1. Get ready the night before – shave, shower – whatever you can do the night before, do it then.  Minimise the time you need to be up in the morning before getting out the door – this can save you up to half an hour!

2. Breakfast muffins – plenty of recipes for these on the web.  I like those from Donal Skehan’s book (see below), but you can make your own recipe up.   Great for eating on the train on the way to work

3. A Great Book – an engrossing read will make your 1 hour journey feel like 15 minutes.  Grab your favourite author and enjoy

4. Turn up early – get to the station early, especially if you are at a terminus.  Many seats can be had even at peak times on trains starting at London Bridge and Victoria in the evening, but they will be gone if you arrive on the platform at the last minute

5. Get the National Rail iPhone app – it’s quite simply invaluable.  Live departures/arrivals, plan a journey as you need to – amazing.  So often a train will be full and everyone rushes to the next East Croydon service – very often the best thing to do is sit and wait for the right train, and the iPhone app will help you choose the right train to get you there soonest.
