Ask anyone you know: “what is the one book should I read before I try for our first baby?”. They will all give you one answer – this book.
Taking Charge of Your Fertility is the best selling, top rated book on understanding the fertility cycle, conception and getting ready to try for a baby.
The book has been consistently given 5 stars by Amazon customers in the UK and the US, and the sales figures themselves confirm the success of this book as a fertility and baby planning resource.
The book is much more popular with women, but this is likely because women think about the fertility and planning to conceive a baby a lot more than men (in my opinion). However, as I man and Dad-to-be I also found this book quite readable, and ended up reading it to allay my wife’s concerns about infertility and conceiving a baby successfully.
The only way I was going to have my partner listen to my feedback was by having more knowledge than her, so I simply read the book cover to cover so I could counter her worries and concerns backed up by this book.
If for nothing else than this, I can recommend this as a great introduction to fertility and birth planning for Dads. It could save a lot of confusion for women too so they don’t have their partners staring in confusion as they take their temperature and then demand sex.
For Mums, this is also a recommended read, especially the sections covering natural fertility cycle planning. One word of caution, however, is the natural fertility planning technique described in this book can take time to master and be a little frustrating at first when it doesn’t happen exactly as the text describes. The book has a habit of describing all its techniques as simple, but in practice it takes a bit of practice to get it right.
So overall a good publication on fertility, conception and planning for babies, with just the right amount of technical detail. For the couple who are planning to start a family in the next year, if you are going to read just one book on fertility, then this is it.
