One of us went for acupuncture that morning and were under strict instructions to avoid alcohol for 24 hours as a result. We won't make that mistake again! Maybe next year...it did look very good. Still, with a small baby or toddler there's probably a limit on how much champagne we could have enjoyed as a couple.

Good tips. Also, remember to sit on the carriage that affords you a quick exit at your destination station and get to the platform quick enough to always get a seat in it. If you want to grab a coffee at Brighton station to sip on the train, factor that in – the queues at the kiosks inside and outside can be long. If you are travelling on FCC, take a jacket on a hot day as the air con can be freezing. I'm sure there are other tips, but I can't think of them all right now...!

Forty quid return! Can't remember what I paid when I did this commute between 1982 and 1988 but it was obviously a lot less than that. Nothing else has changed though, with the exception perhaps of the iPod. So thanks, I enjoyed your nostalgic (for me) post. Even made me a bit homesick. BTW Audio books are simply brilliant as they allow you to close your eyes, or look around, and even keep reading while getting on and off the train. I've read 16 books this year so far, just walking the dog!

Thank you for your encouraging words Steve! 8.30am to 6.30pm doesn't sound too bad at all - my day when commuting looks like it will be more like 6.30am train and arriving back at 7-7.30pm! Still, that's why working from home two days a week will make such a difference.

Sounds like you definitely progressed your career and life even while commuting - and moved on to an even better arrangement. I'm sure that must make for an interesting story.

Good on you Graham this is indeed great news and I'm sure it will work fantastically well for you. I live in Sydney now but originally lived in Brighton, so I'm all too familiar with your commute. I remember standing on a crispy Preston Park station in winter at 8.20am 'in the dark' and of course returning home 6.30pm-ish also 'in the dark'. Not seeing Brighton in the daylight all week, I found really disconcerting. I felt 'left out', excluded from Brighton life. This occasionally would then lead me to feel quite lonely and miserable. I'm lucky enough now to work from home every day and therefore see my children all the time, except while they are at school of course. I'm very thankful for this, although school holidays can, and often sometimes do prove a bit of a challenge... but that's another post.

Never would have thought to mix those three together, but it sounds really healthy. I read that Greek yogurt has more protein then other yogurt.

GREAT post and not just because you linked to my post (which is very flattering, BTW!). It's so very true. I also homeschool my two kids which makes it even more interesting. It's tough but nothing beats that "light bulb" moment! Thanks for the post! PS I added you to my blog log!

Thanks Rian, you've put it in perfect words - Rock Star. But for some reason it's not given the same weight as strumming a guitar....strange world!
